Preparation

Reliable analytical data starts with a representative, well-prepared sample. Orelysis provides professional sample preparation for drill core, rocks, chips, soils, stream sediments and other geological materials, transforming field samples into homogeneous analytical material while protecting sample identity and integrity throughout the process.

At Orelysis, we recognize sample preparation as the foundation of quality analytical outcomes. Our dedicated sample preparation solutions are designed to deliver consistency, precision, and integrity throughout the testing process. We support exploration and mining operations by providing high-quality preparation services for a wide range of geological materials, including drill core, rock samples, drill cuttings, soils, stream sediments, and other mineral samples.

From receipt and documented custody through drying, crushing, splitting and pulverisation, each stage is managed to meet project-specific preparation requirements. Our workflows are designed to control particle size, minimise contamination and carryover, and produce representative sub-samples suitable for dependable geochemical analysis.

Whether supporting early exploration, resource evaluation or mine operations, Orelysis adapts the preparation workflow to the sample type, mineralisation, analytical method and turnaround requirements of each projectWith flexible and project-specific solutions, Orelysis tailors sample preparation workflows to meet the unique requirements of each client, ensuring efficient turnaround times and dependable results that support confident exploration, resource evaluation, and mining decisions.

Our Preparation Methods

Crushing
Samples are reduced to the required particle size using controlled crushing procedures. Crusher settings are adjusted to suit the project specification, with common targets of 70% or 90% passing 2 mm. Equipment is cleaned between samples to minimise carryover, with additional cleaning cycles available for highly mineralised or high-grade material.
Pulverization
Pulverisation reduces the split sample to a fine, homogeneous powder suitable for analysis. A typical grind specification is greater than 85% passing a 75-micron screen, although alternative specifications can be accommodated where the project or mineralogy requires a different preparation approach.
Sample Splitting
Representative splitting is critical because the analytical sub-sample must preserve the characteristics of the original material. Rotary or riffle splitting procedures are used to divide crushed material into representative portions for further preparation and analysis. Advice in advance is important if submitted material may present special handling or safety requirements.
Drill Core, Rocks & Chips
Excessively wet samples may require additional drying. It is helpful to advise us of mineralised samples that may require special equipment cleaning cycles.

Quality Controls That Protect Your Data

Sample identity and custody

Orelysis maintains documented custody through the preparation process so that sample identity is preserved from receipt through preparation and onward handling. Clear sample identification and controlled workflow are essential to preventing mix-ups and maintaining confidence in the final analytical result.

Particle-size consistency

Crushing and pulverising are performed against the particle-size requirements defined for the project. Consistent preparation improves homogeneity and helps ensure that the analytical portion is representative of the submitted sample.

Contamination and carryover control

Preparation equipment is cleaned between samples to minimise carryover. Where samples are strongly mineralised or unusually high grade, enhanced cleaning cycles can be incorporated to reduce the risk of material transferring from one sample to the next.

Project-specific preparation

No two geological programs are identical. We can tailor preparation workflows to sample type, mineralogy, analytical requirements and project objectives, helping clients balance representativity, data quality and turnaround time.
